April 11, 2008 -  Start Lower Cowl

I drilled and clecoed the top cowl to the backing strips in three spots per the instructions.

On to the lower cowl.  First thing to do was make cutouts for the gear legs.   There was no template -- just had to guesstimate it.  The Dremel sanding drum is perfect for this -- it goes through the fiberglass like a hot knife through butter.

Making the gear leg cutouts allowed me to get the lower cowl on for the first time.  Here's the obligatory photo.   I've only just begun the cowl process, of course.  Lots of trimming and fitting to be done.

It was immediately apparant that the top and lower cowls did not go to gether well in the front.  I took them off and fit them together as shown.

As you can see, the top cowl does not fit well at all over the lower cowl "lip".  I sanded the inside of the top cowl and outside of the lower cowl lips but it didn't make much difference.

Just playing around while I think of what to do next.
